Early Infancy (0-3 Months)

If your baby does not do the following:

  • Turn to a sudden noise or familiar voice.
  • Smile or show other facial expressions.
  • Follow objects with his or her eyes.

Also if your baby exhibits the following behavior:

  • Excessive lethargy or irritability
  • High pitched cry
  • Poor head control
  • Weak suck, tongue thrust, tonic bite
  • Oral hypersensitivity
  • Decreased interest in surroundings
  • Stiff or floppy posture
  • Abnormal or prolonged reflexes (see symptoms of cerebral palsy)

Later Infancy

Inability to perform certain motor skills :

  • Control hand grasp by 3 months
  • Hold his or her head straight by 5 months
  • Lift head up when pulled from a laying flat position to a sitting position by 5 months
  • Roll over by 6 months
  • Baby does not sit without support at 8 months

Also if your baby exhibits the following abnormal developmental pattern

  • Hand preference before 12 months
  • Excessive arching of back
  • Log rolling
