Family Voices of Iowa has been hard at work this year, partnering with the KID Coalition --- made up of 20 advocacy organizations --- and the state's PTI to get recognition and support for the Family-to-Family Health Information Centers concept. Family Voices of Iowa has also begun the process of becoming a formal Family Voices Chapter. The Coordinator met with Title V, Medicaid, the DD Council, ICC, state legislators and Iowa's congressional delegation, as well as representing our children with other parent, disability and child advocacy organizations. Iowa "carves out" children with special health care needs, but parents with private insurance have conflicts with this system of care. Dealing with a system that lacks care coordination continues to cause problems for families, particularly if they are in a waiver program in rural areas. This has impacted efforts to build a more comprehensive family support system statewide.
