Because Family Voices is located at The Parent's Place of Maryland, the state's PTI, more than 5,500 families received Family Voices information and materials in the past year. At Parent's Place, Coordinators also provide one-to-one support to families, mentor family leaders, and build partnerships with the state's Title V/CSHCN program, Medicaid, and child and disability advocacy organizations. Family Voices of Maryland and the state Medicaid agency have developed a unique partnership that includes a contractual agreement to ensure family input in Medicaid managed care. Families report that although managed care provides a medical home and access to specialists (except in rural areas), it really does not deliver care coordination for all children with special health care needs. Among the problems families also face: inadequate coverage for therapies and home care and poor access to health providers and services.
