New York Family Voices has had a busy year, meeting with Title V/CSHCN, Medicaid, provider groups, state legislators, county staff, and the MCH Block Grant Advisory Council. With the Department of Health as a partner, Family Voices increased parent/consumer participation in the state's block grant process by holding 16 family forums to discuss parent issues surrounding access to quality care for their children with special health care needs. Some managed care plans in New York cover services for DME, prescriptions and specialty care, and provide case management. However, in some plans, providers are not familiar with what children with special health care needs and their families require. Parents report that lack of coordination and communication between medical and educational systems limits how schools carry out physician recommendations.
