Questions Or Comments:

The term cerebral palsy refers to any one of a number of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination but don’t worsen over time. Even though cerebral palsy affects muscle movement, it isn’t caused by problems in the muscles or nerves. It is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain that control muscle movements and muscle tone. Muscle tone is the amount of resistance to movement in a muscle. It is what lets you keep your body in a certain posture or position.

Depending on the location and severity of the brain injury it can cause other dysfunctions such as seizures, learning disability, hearing and vision problems.  Since it affects how a child develops its considered a developmental disability.  Cerebral palsy effects more children in the United States than any other developmental disability.
